Dating back to the earliest records in human history, people have been attempting to document families and all of those who belong within them for a host of different reasons. From King David of the Bible, to Confucius from Ancient China, to the Royal Families throughout Europe, to the families who came to America on the Mayflower--we have become more accurate, deliberate, and unified in our descriptions and record keeping of families across time. Sometimes to prove belonging to royalty, or to a certain class of descendants, could mean the difference between a lavish lifestyle dripping in wealth or a life relegated to poverty, hard labor and starvation. However, that being said, there were no shortage of wayward infants and children who were raised outside of their genetic heritage. The age of mortality used to be much lower than it is today, due to causes such as war, famine and disease, to name a few. There were circumstances where offspring were hidden from opposing forces in an attempt to preserve a royal bloodline, or where a royal had impregnated a woman who was not his wife, and that woman wanted to hide the child for fear the royal family would want to kill off any bastard heirs to the throne. Today, we are still a society of people who care for other people's family members. Yet for reasons unbeknownst to history, we still are not adequately describing nor representing families as they exist in the real world.

Our mission

At Integratus, our mission is straightforward. We aim to assist families in connecting with their heritage through historical documents and other resources, while also transforming the way we articulate and comprehend the modern family structure. For generations, we have been aware of families that have adopted children, those children who have experienced life in foster care, single parents who brought a child into the world and entrusted them to an aunt or sister for upbringing, and families that were merged when parents remarried after a divorce or after becoming a widow/widower. The experiences of families torn apart by slavery, war, and other tragedies are even more heart-wrenching. Today, the once-silenced narratives of these families, their children, and their remarkable stories can at last be acknowledged. We can illustrate and represent visually the composition of families worldwide—providing every individual with a place in history and a path forward into their own future.
